We had a good trip to Bedford, VA. Micah got to skate Jake Hilbish's 6 foot mini ramp -- Micah said it was the nicest mini he has ever skated. He also had fun riding the little half bowl in Jake's basement. Brian Hilbish told us of plans to put a concrete skatepark in Bedford County. The park will be just a mile around the corner from Micah's grandparent's house. Thanks Hilbish's! Last night we went to Old School Skatepark in Fredericksburg, VA with his Uncle Daniel. The traffic was rough, but we finally got there. Micah had fun tearing the bowl up. He was close to landing a fs 360 air. This morning we went to Powahatan Springs Skatepark in Arlington. It is his favorite park. The cool trick of the day was a stalefish over the spine. Next event -- the mini comp at Blue Wallace on Jan 5th.

Blue Wallace Skateshop put on its first miniramp comp today Sept 1st. After getting stuck in some awful traffic on I65 S for a couple hours, we finaly reached Bowling Green right before the advanced division began. It was close, but Micah finished first! The whole Blue Wallace crew was really cool. Thanks for Lil' Tony -- Concretin who told us about the event and for the Blue Wallace guys who are putting on the Bacon/Galloway demo next week as well as future comps in BG. Some guys at BG have started a nonprofit group called Skateboarding Saved My Life check it out. They hope to do more events at BG and around KY -- hopefully some type of skate series thing, but they are just getting started.

They had 2 bowls and a street section. Codie placed 3rd in beginners bowl and Micah placed 1st in the Intermediate. The experts were crazy sick! Scroll down for video of Micah's runs. Codie is in the yellow shirt and Abe is in the brown.

Micah is 10 today! We went to Natural Bridge, swam, caught crawdads, hiked, roasted marshmallows and camped. Wished we knew where Moser (the bowl man) lives, but that didn't happen. Put his old 62s back on his set-up in hopes of more speed for the bowl competition in Bloomington, IN Sat.

Here's video of Arlington and Greenbelt.

Had a blast at Greenbelt. What a gem of a park! Small, but with a great bowl. Micah was able to get more air then ever on the backside early grab. He finished 1st in the 10 and under and was interviewed by Marcus Ngbea of the Gazette and Star of Greenbelt. The article is also supposed to be in Thurs Metro section of The Washington Post. Everyone had a blast, the atmosphere was great. We'll definitely be back to Greenbelt. We actually met a cool skater named Jake from Bedford, VA -- that's where Micah's other grandparents live. We can't wait to check his miniramp out and road trip to the new Lynchburg Park when it opens later this summer.

New friends of Cabin 25 at Camp Woodward: Jack, Micah, Archer, Anson and Kevin

Micah and I had an amazing time at Woodward. In the advanced mini ramp division he placed 3rd and did well in intermediate street though he did not place. He learned to drop into the vert ramp. And he got tapped (invited to the all-star week)!

Sunday, April 15, 2007

Yeah, we wimped out and skipped the Bowling Green skatepark opening. I just didn't see spending the gas money to see Micah knock himself out and rust his bearings in the rain. Well, we went to Ollies instead. Half of Lexington was there. Micah got feeble grind to fakie in the bowl, mini and 6ft mini. He also got 50/50s in the corner of the bowl. We had fun w/Rachel and Joe. Joe learned to carve and Rachel beat a bunch of kids at skate. Here is an article on the BG Skatepark opening at http://bgdailynews.com/articles/2007/04/15/news/news1.txt (cut and paste it into your browser). We are so happpy for Bowling Green and can't wait to come down.

We went up with our friend David Castillos to Ollie's last night for the bands McRad, Smiles and for the Best Trick contest. Micah did well in the bowl with smooth frontside airs, an Indy, lipslide and cool carves. He was the youngest competitor. He received an Honorable Mention. Morgan Burgess ripped up the bowl taking first.

3rd Lair King of the Groms -- after a couple flight delays we finally got to Minnesota. Laura picked us up at the airport. Laura and Jesse took us out to eat at Hong Kong Noodles. We are getting ready for the competition today. It is STIFF. There are 40 competitors in the Micah's first competition - Intermediate Bowl. The sheet can be viewed here. I think I counted 156 total registrants from over 20 states.

2-18-07 Went to Ollie's. It was hopping. Morgan and DJ were tearing up the park. Micah finally started getting his frontside ollies. He snapped a bunch off in the little mini, the 6 foot halfpipe and the bowl.

2-19-07 After shoveling off the Woodland Park, Micah got some good runs in. We are real excited about flying out to the King of the Groms at Third Lair in Minneapolis, MN. It is advertised as the largest 12 and under skateboard competition in the world.

Here is some footage from the comp, Concrete Wave Country, Ollies, and Woodland.

Here is the video that Sixth Avenue Skatepark put together for the Young Guns Comp. Alex Longcamp, one of Micah's friends from Ollies took first in the expert.

Sunday, January 21, 2007

We had a lot of fun running down to 6th Avenue Skatepark in Nashville for the Young Guns 13 and under competition Sat. We left at 7:30am and returned at 11:30pm. We hooked up with Nick and Alex from Ollies. Nick won the 13 and under beginner and Alex took 1st in the advanced. They originally put Micah in the Novice 9 and under, but he got bumped up to the intermediate division.

He placed 3rd out of 15 and was probably the youngest intermediate contestant. After a whole day of skating at Sixth Avenue we went to Concrete Wave Country, hit the Waffle House then headed home.

Monday, January 15, 2007

Man it is raining a lot. We had to get out, so Ollie's is where we went. David, Harrison and Micah. The vid is of Micah, David, Arik, Forest, Alex. Ack, didn't get any footage of Harrison, but David said he was "Rippin it up."

We capped off the night with a late session at Evolution Skatepark in Canton. The next day we went to the Akron Park, then back to Evolution for the Spinezilla double miniramp competition. Micah Placed 2nd (behind Zach Krouth) in the younger division out of 20+ skaters. Kristian Svitek was one of the judges.
